Vinny was used until 2005 in Ali's Solo recital work at which point Ali decided to retire him and commissioned Junior. Tuned to 415Hz Vinny has a beautiful mellow sound.
Vinny was built in 1764 by Vincentius Vinnacia
Purchased by Ali in 1991 and after some extensive repairs Ali started using Vinny in recitals from 1994.

The back is made from 23 deeply scalloped narrow ribs of figured maple, each rib is separated by a 0.75mm ebony spacer,
and a carved end clasp varnished with an mid amber oil varnish.
The Spruce soundboard and fingerboard are highly decorated with mother of pearl shapes round the sound hole continuing along the
fingerboard inlaid into tortoiseshell over gold leaf edged with ivory and ebony lines.
The shaped tortoiseshell over gold leaf scratch plate is bordered with mother of pearl, and there is a
mother of pearl decorative motif at the end of the soundboard.
The neck is decorated with strips of mother of pearl and tortoiseshell over gold leaf edged with ivory and ebony lines.
The shaped peg head has 8 ebony pegs each with an ivory pip, the front, back and sides are covered with tortoiseshell over gold
leaf with a decorative mother of pearl middle panel and bordered inlay with a bone nut.
